Anti-Semitism Lessons Learned Assessment

Over the last few months we looked extensively at Judaism. Judaism is an extremely important topic because Judaism is the religion out of which Christianity is born. Pope John Paul II called the two religions sisters. Unfortunately, we have also seen that over the last two thousand years a prejudice called anti-Semitism emerged and enabled the Holocaust to take the lives of 6 million Jews and others. Jesus said: “love your neighbor as you love yourself” (Mark 12:31) and “love your enemies and do good to those who hate you” (Luke 6:27). As Christian we must ask ourselves how did good people allow anti-Semitism and the Holocaust to occur, and if we are to take Christ’s message seriously in our lives and seek to be faithful to the Gospel, we must ask ourselves what prejudices exist in our own lives and what can we do to end them?

Your job is to compose a 2-3 page (typed, double-space) paper reflecting on the following three questions:

o   What is anti-Semitism and why did/does it occur?

o   What prejudices exist in the world today, especially in your immediate world?

o   What can you do to help eliminate prejudice from your life and the world?

Your paper will be worth 100 test points and is due Tuesday, February 13, 2007.  You will have no class time to complete this project and there will be other homework assignments between today and the due date, so plan your time well!

Use the writing process.

o       Brainstorm ideas

o       Make an outline

o       Write a rough draft

o       Have some read/peer edit your rough

o       Read your own rough draft

o       Make sure your final draft is the best you can possibly do
